Trusts have a much wider application than just Inheritance tax (IHT), but they can be a useful tool.
Simply put trusts can be a flexible and effective way of placing assets outside of your ownership, but still retaining control. They can be used by parents wishing to redirect an inheritance to provide money to assist children buying a house or for school or university fees. They can be used to provide for children or relatives who may be unable to manage an inheritance for any reason and for succession planning in family businesses, as well as with agricultural property. Trusts can be created during your lifetime or within your will.
IHT planning can often be relatively straightforward and involve a simple tax planning process that will help you arrange your affairs to make the best use of the IHT nil rate tax band, lifetime gifts, exemptions and reliefs.
Whatever the value of your estate our specialist lawyers will help you arrange your financial affairs in a tax efficient way to provide you with peace of mind, and give you the reassurance that during your life or following your death you and your family don’t pay any more IHT than you need to.
